Ingredients You Need to Get Baking

Written by Alexis Vieira.

Whether baking a cake, cookies or pies (and other delicious desserts as well), certain ingredients show up as the basic essentials for the start of most recipes. Having these on hand will save you the troubles of remembering to buy them but will also allow you to whip something up whenever the mood strikes.

Flour. Having a large bag of flour on hand is often the best way to go when buying for baking. Flour is used to not only leaven items but also to stop dough’s from sticking to surfaces. Rub flour lightly on a rolling pin before rolling out dough to help keep it together and off the pin. Generally, the choice of flour is up to you and there are several varieties to choose from.

Whether you enjoy baking or it scares you, it’s great to try. Baked goods taste, well, good, and they can be just as fun to make as they are to eat. Often times, the precision of making baked goods and having the equipment needed to produce many desserts has many people picking up a pack of cookies instead of pulling their own fresh batch out of the oven. Baking isn’t as daunting as it seems and practice definitely makes perfect. Before you turn on the oven and download some recipes though, make sure you have some of the basic items lying around in your cabinets.

Measuring cups and spoons. Using precise measurements is one of the most important aspects of baking. While it may seem not seem bad to have a few extra dashes of sugar here and there, using the wrong measurements can be seriously detrimental to the makeup of desserts. If you don’t have them already, invest in a set of both measuring cups and spoons to accurately measure out ingredients.
